   “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may seen your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”

Mt. 5:16

   This is a small piece of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. As we’ve said many times, context matters a great deal in considering Biblical passages. The sermon underlines general principles that God considers important in following Him.

   That said, we offer 3 generalities that we observe that seem consistent with God’s teaching here and elsewhere.

   (1)  Doing “good works” (in general) matters to God².

   (2)  They don’t always have to be done in secret (as other people, and even the Bible elsewhere encourages). Note that the issue here is being a light to the world.

   (3)  Their purpose: Not to brag, but to glorify God.
