Devotional reading of the BIBLE is an adult delight (no, not ‘delite’) for Christians. Hardly a duty.

.

The Bible has so much to say

but you have to personally read it to understand why.

And the different translations? At risk of sounding generic, we’ll–here and now–only recommend two The NIV and NASB¹.

.

And we’ll (again) recommend getting them on a Kindle Fire, or its equivalent, and reading text in portrait (vertical) format, because that helps you avoid getting whiplash twisting back and forth².

These are lite (light) easily dumped off comments. And they arrive in much the same way as posts prefaced by “Gospel Lite.” They are not as carefully researched and buffered by outside sources like we seem to suggest we do more often than we actually do. We’re especially sensitive about this sometimes when we talk about Bible teachings in what seems like a casual way. That said, we in no way devalue sharing insights that arrive during personal devotional reading, usually early in the morning–at times when the computer is very nearby.

We recognize that personal help and encouragement from God–that truly encouraging and refreshing for oneself–is not necessarily one-size-fits-all, or can be applicable, or even correct, for others. We can make mistakes and can overstep in ways we may regret later.

So if you see and read something labeled “Gospel Lite,” it may be the best thing you’ll hear today, but if our commentary falls short or simply false because of our short-sightedness, don’t blame God or the Bible, blame us…but still come again for another, more cautious, visit.

Notice we’ve still created enough for footnotes–as lite-weight as they may be.seem.

¹ That’s the New International Version and New American Standard Bibles. Many Bibles in these translations come with helpful footnotes (Yes, that’s cool) and the ebook versions, most friendly as we’ve said, which can be put in portrait (vertical) orientations. (See next note.)

² Everybody needs to “adjust” ebook reading to suit one’s taste–right font, size of type, length of line, etc.–so play around with your Kindle or notepad to discover what Marie Kondo would say “Sparks your joy.” There’s still a place for the heavy “leatherbacks” with study notes, however, for other times of study–especially when the power grid goes down.
