In Luke 12:11-21:, Jesus tell a story about a successful man who still wanted much more, so that it became an obsession:

.

The man declares: “I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you…the man who lays up treasure for himself…is not rich toward God.”

What quick observations¹ can we make about this? According to Jesus:

   (1)  The soul has “ears” and can make decisions.

   (2)  This decision-maker is not part of the physical body, though it can direct the body as to what it does.

   (3)  The physical body stays on Earth, eventually dying and wasting away.

   (4)  The massless, weightless, invisible soul goes elsewhere.

   (5)  The soul lives on.

   (6)  The soul has some sort of accountability to God.
