Want to cut down the distance to somewhere?

   Just go faster–really faster.

I’m not talking about time,

   But actual distance,

You know, the sort of thing you could measure with a yardstick.

According to Robert Lanza¹, that’s possible.

For more, speed to the DOOR.

   According to Lanza¹:

“If we crossed a large living room going 99.9999999 % of the lightspeed, every instrument and perception would show that it [the living room] is 22,360 times smaller–barely larger than the period at the end of this sentence.”

Think of it, the living room measured by such a “fast-traveling” traveler would be too tiny for such a crude measuring tool!

Let me offer a religious, “spiritual” application–not Lanza’s purpose here!–to help a person think about certain “sudden appearance” miracles. Not explain them, mind you, but think about what might be happening. Traveling right at lightspeed, a person in a body could be everywhere at once because the distance to anywhere is “0.” Think Jesus on Earth suddening appearing walking on water several miles from where He’d been with people; or consider Philip, one of the first church deacons, suddenly appearing in the flesh to the Ethiopian eunuch reading Isaiah from the Bible while driving his chariot²; or consider the coming and going of angels appearing in human form.

Of  course, a person can’t get anywhere close to traveling at the speed of light. But science is friendly to someone managing to do so. Further, a God that made the whole universe, could certainly find a way to make that happen…Of course the factors I just mentioned may not have anything to do with how God the Father did things…

But knowing a little modern physics helps “gild the Godly magic” of how wondrous things in the Bible really might have happened.

   And I certainly think–or hope!–that God doesn’t mind.

¹ From Beyond Biocentrism (Benbella Books, Inc., Dallas TX, 2015, Kindle Version) by Robert Lanza and Bob Berman. It should be mentioned that these are not Christian books. Nor is it New Age. But, I feel, it is very friendly to Christian faith that takes science seriously. Lanza was discovered as a teenager in a parking lot at Harvard University when he was seeking information for a cloning experiment with chickens he was conducting in the basement of his home on “the other side of the tracks.” His BA & MD is from Univ. of PA. He was a Fulbright Scholar and part of the team that cloned the world’s first human embryo, as well as the first to clone an endangered species. Lanza has been featured at one time or another in key journals, magazines, and newspapers. Bob Berman is a widely interviewed and published astronomer.

Biocentrism: How Life and Consciousness are the Keys to Understanding the True Nature of the Universe is Lanza and Berman’s prequel to this volume. This is a favorite book of mine to read and reread.

² Okay, though the Bible doesn’t say one way or the other, the eunuch probably had a servant to do the driving while he was reading on the chariot highway. The man was hardly an idiot. After Philip explained the text from Isaiah, the man immediately took action and believed and was baptized.
