This is the scene where Fairold, the ordinary middle brother, climbs into the lead in “Death in a Tavern,” a complete “other-worldly” novella included in my novel, Earth Is Not Alone (seen at the right side of the page). From this point on we see the rest of the story entirely through this prince’s eyes. With a sword, Fairold is no match for his brother, but he has an ordinary, though secret, edge in warfare. Quietly unaware of it, he sees things much better. Soon propelled by sudden tragedy, it must be he–or his missing younger brother–that faces the horror that lies ahead.
