The message in the current “newspaper” (provided by Starbucks and USA Today) to encourage coffee conversation about people who are different accepting each other (which we agree with) includes these two facts, one after the other:

(1) About 67% of black children live in single-parent homes.

.

(2)  There are nearly 2.9 million more white children than black children living in single-parent homes.¹

.

This is a sad commentary on American life. However, the arranging of the data reminds me of a story…

   A good friend a bit old than I once told me he was the Salutatorian of his high school class. However, he had a bit of a problem getting aid for further education because he wasn’t in the upper 10% of his class.

   His problem?  His graduating class had eight students…

   To be fair to ‘Bucks, however, off to the side is this datum from Pew Research:

Less than half (46%) of U. S. kids younger than 18 live in a home with two married heterosexual parents in their first marriage.

   Another sad statistic.  Yes, these sobering facts go along with your coffee…
