As I “bundle” these to keep, I will share some brief electronic notes of things that came to mind.

What’s this? A summary of notes quickly typed in. (We left off at Mt. 10:4.)

.

Mt. 10: 6   [Jesus sends out the 12 disciples]  “Do not go in the way of the Gentiles, and do not enter any city of the Samaritans; but rather go¹ to the lost sheep of Israel.”

¹Go to the “in” group.

Mt 10:16   “I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; therefore be shrewd¹ as serpents, and innocent as doves.”

¹Shrewdness + innocence = wisdom in God’s special work.

Mt. 10:28   [Jesus says] do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul¹.

¹The soul does not require a body.

Mt. 11:21  [Jesus says] “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago is sackcloth and ashes¹.

¹Repentance involves sorrow about, and dealing with the past.

Mt. 11:22  [Jesus says] “…it shall be more tolerable¹ for Tyre and Sidon the day of judgment, than for you [Chorazin and Bethsaida].”

¹”Degrees” of punishment will be given later.

Mt. 11:25   [Jesus prays]  “I praise Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and Earth, that Thou didst hide these things from the wise and intelligent and didst reveal them to babes¹.

¹What is important is revealed to the young and the ordinary (as well? or revealed more clearly?)

Mt. 12:1   [Jesus']  “disciples became unary and began to pick the heads of grain and eat¹.”

¹I didn’t realize that could serve as a meal! (Was that a desperate act?)

Mt. 12:5-6   [Jesus says]  “…have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath, and are innocent? But I say to you, that something greater than the temple is here¹.”

¹Jesus leaves it to the questioner to figure out the rest for himself. (Isn’t the best truth that sticks the one that one discovers for himself?)

Mt. 12:11   [Jesus asks] “What man shall there be among you, who shall have one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it, and lift it out?¹

¹Think about “lawful” exceptions.

Mt. 12:12   [Jesus says]  “Of how much more value is a man than a sheep!¹”

¹Re animal rights: Both have value, but Jesus clearly implies here that humans (created in God’s image) are much more important than animals.
