Regarding JESUS:

“The idea that the entire course of civilization for over half of the globe could have its fate changed and turned upside-down by a nutcase, for me, that’s farfetched…”

First, I haven’t read the book, only a portion that appeared on the Internet–that was brought to my attention recently by 2 subscribers of What I read was most intriguing, and perhaps for some of you worth chasing down.

Fortunately, God escapes the church building and speaks in tongues more attune to those in need–to people who are young and know there’s more, but don’t know exactly how to find it.

The interview with Bono is said to have been conducted by a 30+ year friend of Bono’s, so that’s a factor to consider. But the point of Bono’s words–whether exact or not–are worth pondering. Sometimes one has to step far back to see better. How could a single person [Jesus] have such a powerful effect on a planet for so long? And, one who’s brought hope and comfort to so many?

Bono is apparently aware of C. S. Lewis’s famous “trilemma” discussed in Mere Christianity. He declared (my words paraphrasing) that Jesus Christ must be one of 3 things: (1) a liar, (2) a lunatic, or (3) the Lord he claimed to be. Proven liars and nut-cases get only a limited hearing for–mercifully–a short time.

Bono reads and thinks as well as sings–often in words that are edgy. But then so was Jesus who long ago accurately called certain hypocrites “whited sepulchers.”
